My Point to Ponder today was a quote from Thomas Jefferson, “I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.”

The danger he spoke of was from the British forces scattered across the American colonies. Within this statement was a resolve to face death rather than bow down to the tyranny forced on the colonies by the British military. Death was the result of noncompliance.

Today, we face a different enemy, a different kind of enemy, an invisible enemy that has caused us to cower down in our homes; not from fear of a traditional enemy, but from fear of the unknown. A fear enhanced by both government officials, the CDC and questionable reporting from the media.

Our President formed a task force of “experts” who, acting on the side of safety first, recommended we hide from this intruder. And we, for the most part followed orders (suggestions) to self quarantine, hide if you will.

As time has passed, reports have indicated that some of the initial estimates might not have been as serious as first feared (noting here that one person’s death is too many). Yet, we are at war, and people do die in wars. We are at war with an unknown, invisible killer. A killer that we have yet to discover or accept any defense toward.

No vaccine for recovery or prevention has been approved. We know that many experts are working on this and pray that good results will soon be reached, approved and accepted. We also know that many are fighting this dreaded enemy on the front lines. And to those, we owe and give our deepest praise.

But, we are the people of the United States, Americans who have fought, no matter the danger, for that sacred thing we call “freedom”.

It’s not in our nature to hide, to cower or run from danger. We won’t be held back any longer. We will restore our economy!

We will work! And we will be cautious as we re-open our small businesses, return to our industries, whatever they may be; our jobs.

For we must provide for our families, we must work! And we will. As Thomas Jefferson said, we prefer “dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery. “ This is the American Spirit. We will prevail. May God help and protect us as we advance against this enemy.

Just Pondering.
