I’m tired of hiding from this virus; and I’m even beginning to question if we ever should have.
Let’s face whatever comes. Yes, some may get sick and yes, some may die. But that’s life, that’s risk, that’s living life. Everyone has to die; I’d rather my death come from facing the enemy than hiding from it. Hiding in a bunker is the way of cowards.
It’s deadly, especially to the elderly. Ok, let’s take steps to protect and care for our seniors as well as those who may have weakened immune systems.
Now, our President, acting on what was, in the early stages, the best advice from medical experts, had to recommend the country shut down. And based on the best projected models, it was good advice. It was the thing to do because this was a Pandemic. A very frightening word, a scary word.
Now, again and again, all you hear from the news is numbers. Numbers showing how many tested, percentage infected, number dead. And of the dead, those dead due to the virus and those waiting to be tested to see if their deaths involved the virus (much later, we found the count involves any death, which is found to have the virus, active or not, is counted as a COVID-19 death, regardless of the real cause).
Percentages are calculated on those tested, and testing only those who display symptoms, not the overall population; thus skewing the actual numbers to make things look much worse than they are.
Thank you, MSM. You have convinced the public that the invisible virus is lurking everywhere, just waiting to strike. I even saw a lady today driving alone in her own car, windows up, wearing a mask and surgical gloves — overboard and from what? From fear; panic brought on by the never-ending, overemphasized, terrible news spewed out every hour of every day.
Now that time has passed, it’s obvious that the projections were not accurate; reality not near what was predicted. Maybe partly due to the shut-everything-down, stay-at-home requirement … or maybe not. Regardless, this order is no longer necessary.
And masks — that’s another pondering for later.
Please don’t misunderstand. As from the poem, For Whom the Bell Tolls, by John Donne “Anyone’s death diminishes all mankind” no matter the cause, any cause. Yes, this virus is a killer to some, but it’s not the killer of all mankind like it has been presented.
Those who are working directly with COVID-19 patients are to be admired — admired for placing themselves in harm’s way. They see daily what the virus can do. However, they are close, too close to advise what needs to be done, and reasonably so. Yet, hospitals are not full. Other medical staff are being laid off while the hospitals continue to wait for the predicted masses of infected patients.
So, to present what has been happening for more than it is, is not acceptable.
As to the experts, they are highly trained medical people. They see things through a microscope, per say. It’s not their duty to look beyond the virus. Were it up to them, they would have us keep things closed until there was no virus at all.
But this country is fed up with hiding, cowering from risks. We are ready to face this thing. To take our lives back, to take our chances.
If we get sick, even should some of us die, then let it be on us. Let the shops open. Let the public go back to work. Stop the scare tactics. We are ready to face the enemy — visible or invisible.
As for now, we eat the elephant one bite at a time … waiting on our governors to stop listening to misinformed “experts” and reopen our country completely.
Just Pondering … err … Venting
